76ers’ Paul George undergoes arthroscopic knee surgery

The Philadelphia 76ers’ star player, Paul George, had surgery on his left knee on Monday to fix an injury he got during a recent workout, according to the team.

George will start a rehabilitation program and will be checked again before training camp begins in September. Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow performed the surgery at the NYU Langone Sports Medicine Orthopedic Center.

At 35 years old, George has faced many injury problems over the past few years and was limited to only 41 games last season due to issues with his groin, finger, and knee. This marks the fifth time in six years that he has played fewer than 60 games.

George averaged only 16.2 points this past season, which is over five points lower than his average in the last ten years. His season ended in March after he got injections in both his left adductor muscle and left knee.

A nine-time All-Star, George is starting the second year of a four-year, $212 million deal he signed with Philadelphia last summer.

Joel Embiid, the star player for the 76ers, was also limited to just 19 games last season, and Philadelphia finished with its lowest number of wins (24) since the 1994-95 season. The trio of stars—Embiid, George, and Tyrese Maxey—played together in only 15 games for a total of 294 minutes last season.

Embiid underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in April but is reportedly “on track” to be ready for training camp, according to Sixers president Daryl Morey.
