Manchester United improve offer for Brentford’s Mbeumo

Manchester United have returned to Brentfordwith a renewed offer for winger Bryan Mbeumo.

United has shown that they are ready to pay more than £60 million, with most of that amount to be paid right away. They are getting closer to Brentford’s asking price of about £65 million for the player from Cameroon.

The talks between the two clubs have been happening for weeks and picked up pace again over the weekend.

Sources have informed ESPN that Manchester United knows Mbeumo wants to transfer to Old Trafford, even though the team will not play in Europe next season.

Tottenham has also shown interest in Mbeumo after hiring Thomas Frank as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement.

However, United feels optimistic about reaching an agreement with Brentford on Mbeumo’s price and finding a suitable payment plan. They aim to bring the 25-year-old into Ruben Amorim’s squad before their pre-season tour in the United States.

In other news, United has been given another opportunity to pursue Christopher Nkunku. Sources say the French player is eager to leave Chelsea this summer.

United had previously shown interest in Nkunku back in January when discussions with Chelsea included winger Alejandro Garnacho.

Although a deal didn’t happen at that time, United is now aware that Nkunku is available as they look for a striker.

They have already lost out on Liam Delap, who transferred to Stamford Bridge, which makes it harder for Nkunku to secure regular playing time.

The 27-year-old has faced challenges at Chelsea since joining from RB Leipzig in 2023, managing only six goals in the Premier League over two years.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca addressed questions about Nkunku during a press conference on Monday.

“Christo is with us,” the Chelsea coach stated. “He is our player. He has been performing well over the last four or five days. So we might consider giving him some opportunities.”
