Kirk Barton, a former captain of the Ohio State football team who later played in the NFL, is facing a serious charge of aggravated vehicular manslaughter after a deadly crash early Saturday morning.

According to police in Dublin, Ohio, Barton is believed to have been driving “at a high rate of speed” when his truck collided with another car at 2:56 a.m. local time. The driver of that car, 24-year-old Ethan Wence Perry, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Barton, who is 40 years old, suffered minor injuries that were not life-threatening and was briefly hospitalized. He was then taken to Franklin County Jail where he now faces this felony charge. He has a court hearing scheduled for Monday.
Barton played as a right tackle at Ohio State from 2003 to 2007 and received All-America honors during his last season. The Chicago Bears drafted him in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL draft. He participated in just one game for Chicago and had short stints with various other teams in the league afterward.
