Ex-WR Antonio Brown sought on attempted murder charge, report says

Law enforcement in Miami-Dade County is trying to arrest former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown on a charge of attempted murder, as stated in a warrant obtained by The Washington Post.

This charge relates to a shooting that Brown was reportedly involved in during a celebrity boxing match in Miami last month. The warrant indicates that the charge is for attempted murder with a firearm and requires Brown to pay a $10,000 bond while staying under house arrest until his trial, according to The Post.

Police took Brown into custody after gunshots rang out at the boxing event, which was organized by online streamer Adin Ross. A video shared on social media showed Brown fighting with several individuals, and gunfire could be clearly heard following the fight.

After a few hours, police released Brown, and he posted an explanation on social media the next day. “I was attacked by multiple people who tried to steal my jewelry and hurt me,” he wrote on his X account.

“Despite some videos going around, police held me briefly until they heard my side of the story and then let me go. I went home that night and was not arrested. I will be consulting my legal team about pressing charges against the people who attacked me.”

The warrant states that witnesses informed police officers that Brown was the shooter, and they found two shell casings at the scene.

When he was arrested, Brown did not have a weapon on him, but the man he allegedly hit during the fight told police that after the fight was over, Brown “started running toward him with a gun” and fired at him twice.

The man recognized Brown from surveillance footage and mentioned that he has known him since 2022.

This incident is just one of many on- and off-field problems involving Brown since his sudden exit from the NFL. Once thought to be headed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the four-time All-Pro was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Raiders in 2019 after spending nine seasons with them.

However, he was released by the Raiders before even playing a game; he hurt his feet by using a cryotherapy chamber without shoes, refused to wear his assigned helmet, and shared a recorded voicemail from then-coach Jon Gruden online.

Brown then joined the New England Patriots, where he played only one game before being released again due to a lawsuit filed by a former trainer who accused him of sexual assault.

In June 2020, he pleaded no contest to felony burglary with battery and two lesser misdemeanor charges related to an incident with a moving truck company outside his house. He did not serve jail time but received two years of probation and had to complete 100 hours of community service as part of the agreement.

Brown played for two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after signing with them in October 2020, winning his first Super Bowl there. However, in 2021, he left the field during a game, which effectively ended his career in Tampa.
