Baylor Scheierman from the Celtics shares how Jayson Tatum’s injury affects his future.

The Boston Celtics need to adjust their rotation since Jayson Tatum is not available. The ideal situation for the team is that he comes back at the end of next season.

While he heals from his torn Achilles, this gives other players a chance to step up. Baylor Scheierman is one player who could gain from Tatum’s absence.

Scheierman realizes that he might be included in the regular rotation now that Tatum is out. Although he won’t start, he will receive significantly more playing time.

Baylor Scheierman recognizes the new role he’ll have with the Celtics next season.

As the team prepares for many changes this summer, Scheierman spoke about how his responsibilities might increase next season.

He understands that he could be on the court much more often.

“I was in that uncertain spot of being healthy but not expecting to play much. However, when teammates started getting hurt, I realized I needed to focus and be ready because I might get my chance. All those feelings influenced how I approached things.”

With Tatum out, there’s an opportunity for Scheierman to step into the rotation. If the Celtics decide to trade some starters, he could see even more playing time.

It might be a good idea for Boston to give Scheierman more minutes next season anyway, just to find out what he can do. He didn’t play enough this season for them to really assess his skills.

Next season, he might come back as a better defender who can handle more playing time. He has already shown he can shoot well from beyond the three-point line.

The Celtics would love for him to become an improved version of Sam Hauser. That would be perfect for their plans, especially if they need to let go of Hauser this summer.
