Errani and Vavassori easily defeated the American team to win the mixed doubles championship.

PARIS — Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori from Italy secured a 6-4, 6-2 win against Americans Taylor Townsend and Evan King on Court Philippe-Chatrier, earning the French Open mixed doubles title on Thursday.

This victory marked their second mixed doubles Grand Slam championship, following their first at the US Open last year, where they also defeated Townsend and her previous partner, Donald Young.

For Errani, this win added to her total of seven Grand Slam doubles titles, which includes five victories in women’s doubles.

“Congratulations to Evan and Taylor. It was really tough playing against you. We had to prepare a lot,” said Errani, who will also compete in the women’s doubles semifinals with Jasmine Paolini on Friday. “Thanks to Andrea, my best friend; it’s such a joy to play with you. You’re an incredible person, and being here with you is very special.”

Errani and Vavassori faced some challenges early in the first set but managed to save two break points to keep it even at 1-1. They then took control by breaking serve and leading 4-3 after Townsend hit a forehand wide. In the second set, they stepped up their game, breaking serve twice before Townsend made an error on a volley, sealing a strong victory for the third seeds.

“It’s amazing to reach another Grand Slam final together,” Vavassori said. His win helped ease the disappointment of losing in last year’s French Open men’s doubles final. “We had an incredible experience at the US Open; it was like a dream come true, and we love playing together.”

The American duo struggled throughout the match and accumulated 25 unforced errors—nearly three times more than Errani and Vavassori’s nine mistakes.

“Thanks for all your support and for helping us this week! We’re excited to be back at Wimbledon,” said Townsend, who joined forces with King before the French Open. Townsend’s former partner, Young, left tennis after their loss at the US Open to start playing pickleball instead.
