The San Francisco 49ers are aiming to recover from a tough 2024 season.
Last year, the 49ers ended up at the bottom of the NFC West with a 6-11 record, so they hope to return to their winning form this season. However, not everyone believes they can achieve that.
In a recent piece by Jared Dubin from CBS Sports, he shares his thoughts on how the Niners’ division will unfold this season. He discusses win projections and suggests that San Francisco’s best chance is to end up with fewer than 10.5 wins.
“The 49ers are going through a transition period with many changes on both offense and defense, along with key players returning from serious injuries,” Dubin wrote. “The star talent is still present. Bosa, McCaffrey, George Kittle, Fred Warner, and coach Kyle Shanahan will keep this team competitive for a playoff spot. It just seems more likely that they’ll be a 10-win team instead of the 12 or 13-win squad we saw in 2022 and 2023.”
Before last year, the 49ers had claimed the AFC West title in each of the previous two seasons, making last year’s performance unusual for them. However, as Dubin mentioned, there have been several significant changes on both sides of the ball. The most notable change was trading Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders earlier this offseason, which will greatly impact their offense.
That being said, the team is confident that one of their other wide receivers will fill in for him. If everyone stays healthy, the Niners will aim to show that this ranking is wrong and return to their usual performance.
