Former NBA superstar Paul Pierce is making headlines again — and not for basketball. The Boston Celtics legend was arrested late Tuesday night in Los Angeles after being found asleep behind the wheel of his Range Rover, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Around 10:40 p.m., officers were responding to a multi-car crash on Highway 101 when they spotted Pierce’s SUV stopped in the road. When they approached, they found the 10-time All-Star asleep at the wheel and showing signs of alcohol impairment, the CHP said.
Pierce was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken into custody. The charge, listed as a misdemeanor, will be reviewed by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.
So far, Pierce hasn’t commented on the incident.
The 47-year-old retired in 2017 after an incredible 19-season career, spending most of it with the Boston Celtics, where he led the team to an NBA Championship in 2008 and earned Finals MVP honors. He later played for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and LA Clippers before hanging up his jersey.
Pierce, who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021, recently co-hosted Fox Sports’ talk show “Speak”, which was canceled earlier this year.
